To measure the linear displacement by LVDT.

AIM: - To measure the linear displacement by LVDT.
APPARATUS: - LVDT trainer kit, digital multi meter.
THEORY:-

Linear variable differential transformer is a mutual inductance type transducer used for conversion of mechanical displacement into proportional electrical voltage. It consists of three coils wound on a single spool with a free moving armature of magnetic material mounted inside the spool. Alternating current is supplied to the primary coil and the magnetic flux generated by this coil is distributed by the armature so that voltage is inducted in the secondary coils. The secondary coils are the armature mounted such that inductance of one increases and of the other decrease. This enables sensing of direction of displacement.
PROCEDURE:-
Connect the power supply.
With the help of the micrometer, adjusted to 25mm, observe the reading on D.M.M.
Now turn the micrometer and take the displacement reading in stapes (Say 1mm) note corresponding voltage.
The voltage will go on decreasing first, touch zero and then go on increasing on the negative side.
RESULT:-
Thus we have measure the linear displacement by LVDT.
