To measure the linear displacement by potentiometer.

AIM:-To measure the linear displacement by potentiometer.

APPRATUS:- Trainer kit, connecting leads.

THEORY:-  A resistive potentiometer is a passive transducer. It consist of a resistive element and sliding contact called wiper.
Let-ei = I/P V (v)
Rp = Total resistance of potentiometer (Ω)
Xt = Total length of pot (m)
Xi = Displacement of slider from its 0 position (m)
Eo = O/P V (v)
Thaneo = Resistance at output/Resistance at input X I/P voltage
    = ( Rp/xt*xe)/Rp  * ei
    =  xi /xt *ei
Since, O/P voltage is various linearly with displacement. It can be calibrated to measure displacement.

PROCEDURE:-
Connect the trainer with supply.
Move the wiper to provide linear displacement.
Record the O/P voltage reading respective to displacement.

RESULT:-
Thus we have measured the linear displacement using potentiometer.
